EXTRA COURSES 

PDSN 0210 PATTERN DESIGN LABORATORY
This no-credit period is open to all students who need additional help in draping, pattern, drafting, tailoring, or sewing.

GNST 4101 STUDY TOUR IN EUROPE
An optional course. ACA will invite students to see the world of fashion through a visit to important industry and cultural events in Europe. The ability to judge significant factors of fashion and to analyze potential trends is developed. Students take field trips to major fashion houses, trade shows, and similar function. Special invitations to opera performances, art galleries, and museum exhibitions broaden creativity. The preparation of reports develops critical judgment. Prominent member of the fashion world lecture and give presentations as part of the course. Students will also turn in a research paper on a selected topic.

QUARTER 1

PDSN 3211 CREATIVE PATTERN DESIGN COLLECTION I
Students learn the importance of a balanced collection of pattern making. Emphasis is on development of student's ability to follow the energy and mind of future fashion designers. Through hands-on training, students will sharpen their aesthetic eye for the fine line and silhouette of the elegance of the fashion body. This course will incorporate draping and flat pattern skills.
3 UNITS: 3 HOURS LECTURE/LAB PER WEEK

PDSN 3221 CREATIVE PATTERN STUDIO I
Students learn the importance a balanced collection of pattern sewing. Emphasis is on development of student's ability to follow the energy and mind of future fashion designers. Through hands-on training, students will sharpen their aesthetic eye for the fine line and silhouette for the elegance of the fashion body. This course will incorporate draping and flat pattern skills. All skills learned emphasize improvement of sewing ability.
3 UNITS: 3 HOURS LECTURE/LAB PER WEEK

PDSN 3200 DESIGN INTERPRETATION & IMAGES
Unique class set up by the President of ACA that explores the symbiotic relationship between pattern design and fashion design. This course is designed as an exercise for upcoming industry experience.
3 UNITS: 3 HOURS LECTURE AND GUEST SPEAKERS

GNST 2600 GENERAL ECONOMICS                                                                                                                   A survey of basic microeconomic principles and problems. Students study the concepts of markets, supply and demand, GNP, inflation, monetary policy, and types of economic systems.

QUARTER 2

PDSN 3212 CREATIVE PATTERN DESIGN COLLECTION II
An advanced course that develop conceptual and pattern design collection techniques required to create student's own pattern design collection; including intensive pattern making detail, delicate fabric construction, and more. This course is a prerequisite for the Gallery Fashion Show.
3 UNITS: 3 HOURS LECTURE/LAB PER WEEK

PDSN 3222 CREATIVE PATTERN STUDIO II
An advanced course that develops conceptual and pattern sewing criteria techniques to prepare students to create their own sewing technique to execute completion of garment. Emphasis is on sewing detail, delicate fabric sewing construction, and more. This course is a prerequisite for the Gallery Show.
3 UNITS: 3 HOURS LECTURE/LAB PER WEEK

TDSN 3201 TEXTILE ENGINEERING I
Students will further their understanding of fabric and printing techniques in order to produce fabric from their original artwork. Students will also be taught various advanced surface treatments on cloth, including burn-out and dying.

TDSN 2020 EMBELLISHMENT
Application of design principles to the embellishment of garments and accessories, with emphasis on techniques, creation of original designs, and fashion trends. Embellishment includes embroidery, silks screening, crystal and nail head, appliqué, etc. Techniques are developed through hands-on experimentation, as well as finishes and hand-printing or computer processing.

QUARTER 3

TDSN 3202 TEXTILE ENGINEERING II                                                                                                    Student will further build on their technical skills and broaden their knowledge of printing. Concentration on the compatibility of fabrics to match performance guidelines and their marketability.
3 UNITS: 3 HOURS LECTURE/LAB PER WEEK

PDSN 3120 INDUSTRIAL DIGITAL PATTERN STUDIO
This course will teach students how to utilize techniques for future industry solutions by seizing the immediate opportunity to implement technology on their premises, with the advantage of expanding. Course includes unlimited number of styles, fabrics, layers and size per file and more.
3 UNITS: 3 HOURS LECTURE/ALB PER WEEK

PDSN 3240 FASHION ACCESSORIES AND PRODUCTION
Examines Haute Couture and expensive accessories using special techniques and fabric characteristic of high end market accessories, including hand bags, belts, scarves, shoes, and more. Students will design and create pieces.

MKTG 4100 CLOTHING AND SOCIETY                                                                                          Prerequisite: FDSN 3112
An advanced social science course that examines the development of dress, adornment, and appearance as a nonverbal mode of communication and explores the meaning of clothing in our global fashion market place.

QUARTER 4

PDSN 3140 GALLERY FASHION SHOW PORTFOLIO
Each student develops a collection in an individualized area of apparel specialization. A representative group of samples from the collection is completed through individual study under the guidance of an experienced design instructor. Students will also learn the digital skills applicable to their final portfolio. A four-week internship in the industry accompanies this course.

MNFG 3220 INTERMEDIATE MANUFACTURING
An intermediate course that explores the world of apparel manufacturing, including production, sourcing, control, planning, costing, resources, allocation and feasibility. Projects including following a product from concept to production and delivery of the product to the retailer.

PDSN 3230 GALLERY FASHION SHOW PREPARATION                                                                     Students learn the importance of how a balanced collection is developed through meetings, discussions, and modification with pattern designer and professional model.
5 UNITS: 5 HOURS LECTURE/LAB PER WEEK

MNGT 4300 SMALL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT                                                                             Prerequisite: GNST 2510                                                                                                                               This course is designed for students who ultimately are going to open and run their own businesses, with an emphasis on the fashion industry. The course will take the student from the basics of choosing a legal business form, through accounting for Management, Financial Planning, Basics of Income Tax, Investment Management and Wealth Building, Branding and Trademarks, Marketing and Sales, and a wealth of information on the process of developing effective business habits that lead to success. We will examine the entire process of Motivation, Discipline, Time Management, Goal Setting, Proven Success Strategies, and other like subjects.                                                                                                                     3 UNITS: 3 HOURS LECTURE PER WEEK
